I read so many different things...:(
Do I eat a carb or protein snack BEFORE working out.? I work-out in the am on an empty stomach and sometimes I am fine, other times I am hungry. I've read if I workout on an empty stomach, I will burn more stored fat. Others say to eat for fuel?? HELP!::angry:
What do I eat BEFORE a workout and/or AFTER a workout, how soon before and how soon after? Or do I eat at all?? hehehe
Any advise will be SO GRATEFULLY APPRECIATED. Lisa

eat some type of carb with a bit of protein before.. for ex, oatmeal and egg whites, or a pb and j sandwich. do not work out on an empty stomach, because you risk using muscle for energy. complex carbs are the best preworkout because they will be broken down slowly, and provide sustained energy. consume it about 45 min to an hour before you workout.. depending on the digestion time.
postworkout both protein and simple carbs are important. if you take a protein shake, consume it within an hour of your workout, as this is the optimal time for protein uptake. about 45 min to an hour after your shake, eat a meal.. something that will be easily digested and feed your muscles/body much needed energy and rebuilding nutrients (ex. white rice or pasta, veggies, and some cut of lean meat)

bropie, you really like pb & j sandwiches don't you. lol Your always suggesting people eat them. Nothing against it though. I love peanut butter straight from the jar.

I've noticed that too. I think Bropie needs to go to P&J anonymous:laugh:
--and he better be eating those on whole wheat bread:)

Keep on with your PB&J there Bropie. It's better than pizza and beer.

The best pre workout meal(heavy weight training) will consist of some type of complex, long lasting fuel carb like oats, brown rice, etc. and a good protein source with good EAA's(essential amino acids). For those hardcore bodybuilders, throwing in some added BCAA's would be of benefit, but not essential.
If pre cardio only, I suggest protein and fats(EFA's like fish oil). Chronic supplementation of fats pre cardio can result in nice returns. Some may want to check out my post as to this in the "diet thread".
