I am not out of shape, but I have never worked out before.
I used the fitness planner to get an exercise plan, but I heard that beginners need to start slow.
Should I do the whole plan with minimal weights for a couple of weeks? months?
How much weight is minimal?
I don't want to risk over stressing beginner muscles.
Please help?

Hello, and welcome to FT!
Don't forget to fill out your profile so we can be of more help to you...
You're right... start slow... don't over do it with weights and don't expect changes in the mirror tomorrow...
After a while, perhaps a couple of weeks, try upping your weights a tad... it's pretty trial and error... listen to your body... if it hurts when you do an exercise, stop...
Just remember to keep at it!

Hi! :) welcome to ft. one advice. I know that there are descriptions of every one of the exercises listed down for your fitness profile, but it's always so much better to take time to read through it & understand. Oh and it would be better if you head to your local gym first and ask a trainer on technique. Ask for his help, so he/she can show you how the exercise is done properly. On your first day, pace yourself, don't do too much.
Dfly is right, stretch before you work any muscle and stretch after you work it. Drink lotsa water and get some sleep. May the force be with you because it's gonna be a B**** the morning after. But don't give up :):dumbbell:

Before I ask the trainers anything, i'd see if they were a certified trainer, or if they are just weight room staff......cause some gyms( ymca) put any tom, dick or harry in the weight room, just to have a "supervisor " in there.
next I say try one of the begineer routines on this sight, I think they have one. OR lots of books nowadays have lots of good pictures, and illistrations in it, an dits just as godd as having some guy your paying 50 dollars and hour for to teach you.
