Hi, I am Lena
I recently started to go to the gym two weeks ago, 3 days a week, and usually i go, and dont know where to start! I love to lift weights, but i hate cardio(sooo boring!), even though i need it! It has to be fun for me to stick with it. This is my third attempt to lose weight. I have a 3 year old son, i am 145 lbs and 5'2". I was in the military before i had a baby, my body is out of shape now. And even while i was in the Army, we did a lot of running, and i would feel chest pains! What is that all about? I usually cant go more than 3 minutes without feeling my chest hurt! Doctors say i am ok. So what am i doing wrong? Well, i just need any recommendations on what my weekly routines should be. I am in the gym for a good hour and a half, wandering aroung thinking of what to do. So may i have a few suggestions please. i would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! |

Start from the begining. Walk. I know this sounds boring and amature, but it works. The best thing about this is that you dont have to go to the gym. Start by parking in a spot far away instead of close up, go window shopping, if where you want to go is only one mile away, walk. If you do this, your body will get use to this on a daily basis instead of just when you go to the gym. After you got that down, can begin to pick up the pace by jogging. I prefer to actually jog out and not on a treadmill. That will prevent you from getting bored so fast.

To what extent did the doctors examine your chest pain? ALso they key to fat loss will be weight training. Muscle is more metabolically active and will use more calories when you are at rest. I hate cardio my self thats why I keep it to 15-20 minutes doing hit only. When I started back into it I used the wonderfull free programs here at this site. Sign up for one and it will give you the tools you need. Welcome and good luck.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. Some people get exercise induced asthma...I know that some days at my Martial Arts class when we do multiple laps into, starjumps, and pushups and situps without rest I start getting coughing fits As a kid I would get this to...I was a great sprinter but sucked when it came to endurance runs...I would start getting a tightness in my chest then would start coughing like crazy...

Well, just to got a lil motivated, i went to the gym yesterday with my husband, since he been doing alot of exercise with the military, he gave me some kind of training with weights, so i am happy that i dont walk in the gym wondering what to do.
If i have to run or jog at all, i do prefer the treadmill...so i can stay at a constant pace, and slow down like i usually do. Otherwise, i will end up walking without realizing it. @mmaibohm...all he did really was listen to my chest for anything abnormal..but then again, they tell me that they catch me not breathing properly while i am running..the pain stops when i stop running. Also, i have been trying to sign up for the personal fitness program at this site, but either i am not clicking on something correctly, or i just dont see my personal fitness workouts. @lonegirl, thanks for the info, i will look it up. @jasin, i been walking at the malls...being here in upstate NY, toooo cold to go outside..lol! @null, i just found out that my husband got me a mp3player, so yes i will be using it!! and i have another question, i went to this place "vitamin world" (like GNC) and i was asking this lady about those protein shakes. Does it help aid to weight loss too? Does it keep you from getting hungry, cause that is the issue i am dealing with now, even though i am eating whole grains, bran flakes, peanut butter jelly sandwiches!!! I am eating healthy, (thats a start) drinking more water, all that good stuff, but i still feel like i got the munchies! So i was looking into buying one of those protien shakes, is it like a meal replacement?? Well if yall do recommend them, which one should i get? I appreciate all of your opinions and thank for your help! |

a vitamin world your either in henrietta or irondeqouit lol I am out in hilton. The chest pain could be excersize induced ischemia. You would really need a stress test.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. And as for that stress test...hmm..you got me thinking, i aint the type to get stressed out unless in extreme circumstances...like exercise! And doing last minute work in school!
I think the gym offers stress tests, i may actually ask about that. And what is ischemia? |

a stress test is where you walk or run and the doctor records your heart activity through a ekg. Or there is a nuclear stress test where they use dye to take pictures of the heart before and after running. Ischemia is a loss of blood flow. The little arteries tempoarily dont transfer blood as necessary.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me.
