I have been on the general progression training plan since March 04. And while I have gained significant improvement in size and strength / power I have also gained a spare tire around my mid section.

What would be the best approach to get rid of this - cutting phase, cardio, diet?
All of the above

Any and all help and inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

A cutting phase would be just the ticket. Start by increasing your work volume, such as supersets, dropsets, etc. This in itself will kickstart your fat loss by if you are at maintnenace now, then the extra workload will create a nice caloric deficit. Then slowly start with your diet, create a caloric deficit to tap fat stores, start with a 250 calorie per day cut for instance, and add in about 25% more cardio(after the weight loss levels out) than you are doing now. Then proceed with intelligent calorie cuts and/or add in more cardio. Do it slowly, as you don't want to go too fast and lose the lean tissue you have gained. If you have say 5 lbs. to lose, an ideal timeframe would be for instance 5 weeks.

I lift five days a week (mon-fri) after work. As of now I don't do any cardio. When would you recommend I squeeze in the cardio?

Should I go down to lifting 3 days a week and do the cardio on my off days?
