Before bed I usually drink a protein shake to keep protein diesting in my body when I sleep. What I was wandering was if eating some chicken or eggs, just some kind of hole protein food before bed would cause me to store fat at night. I wouldn't eat it right before bed, but say an hour before. What do ya think?

That'll work fine, and it's actually a good idea. Just keep the fat and carb count low. Any animal protein, except whey, is fine before bedtime.

I was wondering what this post bedtime meal meant lol breakfast?
I also take a protein shake before going to bed. I cannot sleep with food inside my tummy, so no real dinner for me. If you can handle it then I don't really see anything bad about it if you do as Michael says, keep down the fat and the carbs.

Wait, Michael what are you saying there? Whey proteins are not good before dreamland?

generally storing fat is a function of how many calories you burn and how much you eat. one protein snack prior to bed will not cause fat storage unless you are eating more than you are burning. go ahead have the protein before bed. if you had a day when you really over ate then I might skip it.

Philia, whey s not good before bed because it raises your GH level. THis promotes storing fat. Hope I answered your question, cause you helped mine :)

A good idea is a few scrambled egg whites. It almost pure protein. But the best would be a pure whey shake, with low carbs - so avoid meal replacements prior to bedtime.

Good Luck

Yeah you would store some fat, but not enough to kill ya. I wouldn't really worry about it too much.

I am a little confused here, cuz some ppl really suggest whey protein shakes b4 bed, but I have read that whey is not optimal before bed because it is "fast digestible" protein while it would be best to have a "slower" protein instead. I dont take milk or calcium-containing foods before bed because I am supplementing with ZMA. Any suggestions?
Thanks. :0)

From what I have read/learned, whey protein is only effective as a post workout shake. I'm curious about having to keep the carb count low though. I take Nlarge about 15-30 mins before bed.

For those that take ZMA before going to bed, stay away from food that contains calcium. Your best bet would be oatmeal (made with hot water, not milk) or casein-rich foods. There are those that will disagree, but I prefer casein type protein instead of whey before bedtime.
