Dextrose is another type of sugar used to "spike" insulin levels right after training.

My post workout shake consists of a minimum of 100g of carbs (roughly 50/50 of low and high GI), as well as at least 50g of whey protein, with extra glutamine.

Will the carbs ( simple right ? ) halt the catabolism? Or is that where the dextrose comes in?

I use a protein that is potent and fast and medium absorbing, mixed with 3 scoops of a product called Mass Maker. Great stuff.... I subtitute Mass maker for the dextrose becuae Mass maker has @#$&! load of maltodextrin in it which spike faster than dextrose does and the proteins are entered in continously over an hour and a half rather then shoved in the muscle. Difference between high glycemic and low glycemic carbs is just the rate they fill the muscle and that is all. Your glycogen level with get replenshed the same amount but just in a slower manner thats all.
