Since I do my workouts usually late morning or after work, I don't take anything before working out because I've already consumed a good deal of protein and carbs already. I hit the protein and creatine immediately after a workout. The other thing I do is run on a treadmill for 5-10 minutes to get blood to the muscles. It's amazing how much difference that can make when you're ready to start lifting.

Good luck

Try not to take a high carb drink before a workout. They're for after your workout or midway of a very long training or endurance session.

I always try to eat something with a moderatley low glycemic index about an hour before my workout (can of tuna with 1 cup of green pees and a cup of brown rice... maybe a bit of salsa to spice it up).

If you train in the morning, oatmeal is an excellent pre workout meal with 5 eggwhites or a small chicken breast.
