problems doing squats

i really wanna try squat out, but it hurts my neck, and i almost cramp my shoulder with only 45 lb......... :p, and i heard it works on ur over strength, ya so can anyone tell me whats the problem????

you need to go into a little more detail as to what is hurting you. If you just mean that the bar resting on your neck, then 1. lower the bar a little farther BACK on your upper back. I dont mean farther down, i mean farther back.
2. get used to it
3. use a pad.

Yes, squats will work on your overall strength prob better than any other excercise

wrap a towel around the bar....put the bar lower on your back especially if you're doing squats powerlifting style...and lean forward more...

right along the "T" of the traps is where the bar should be, or alil below......and shrug up, for more "padding"
