To add further to your question mrmagical - I was wondering if someone can get too much protein? Are there any ramifications to extra/excess protein -eg; too many protein shakes?

I imagine that you should probably get as much protein from natural foods as possible, then balance it off with the protein shakes...but I am no dietician...this is just what I believe to be true. :)

You're right on that point, I ama . . . uh . . . I amamam . . . Amazon. Try to get as much as possible from whole foods and make up what you can't with supplements. That should be the general rule to follow with all supplemenets.
To answer your question, Amazon, there is a range where your protein intake would be too much, but you'd have to try really hard to get there. I generally use 2x my bodyweight in pounds as an absolute upper ceiling. You probably could go higher without any problem, but I figure you've got to write the cap somewhere. Even that limit is hard for me to reach in a day.
