With me being on a fat loss, I decided to play around in the kitchen. I LOVE no-bake cookies. So I modified the regular recipe.
1 cup Milk 16 packets Splenda 2 cups Old Fashioned Oats 1/4 cup Natural Almond Butter 1 tsp Vanilla 2 cups protein (I used Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Vanilla Ice Cream flavor) 1/4 cup Egg whites Heat Almond Butter, Milk, & Splenda over medium low heat until melted, stir occassionaly. Temper in egg whites (otherwise you will have scrambled eggs in there). Reduce heat & simmer 5 minutes while stirring. Add Oats & Protein. Once mixed thoroughly, immediately remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Cool 1 minute. Drop spoonfuls on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Let set. I divided it into 16 cookies. Entire recipe is: Calories 1511 Protein 162g Carb 92g Fiber 16g Fat 55g Sat Fat 13g And 2 hours later.... They didn't set as well as no bake cookies. After trying this, I'd recommend flipping them over and letting both sides get air. This will make the outside non-sticky. Then throw them in the refrigerator or freezer to store until you are ready to eat. They taste pretty good to me...especially for a high protein, low carb bar that is homemade. The taste is mostly vanilla with a hint of almond in there. They are fairly sweet..almost like the taste of vanilla cake batter. I figured up that one of them (if split into 16) is 94 calories, 10 protein, 6 carb, 3 fat with 1 fiber and only .8g saturated fat per cookie. Any feedback is welcome...especially with nutritional content. I used 2% milk. -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

Those look pretty good... the thing is... 2 cups of protein is a lot for a poor little college student like me!! I cringe every time I have to use up one little scoop, haha. Maybe I'll try them in a couple weeks though when I get my first paycheck of my new job. I'd probably use peanut butter and skim milk though. i loove peanut butter!

The Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey is about $18 a tub at our local GNC. It's the least expensive I could find. :) I just can't make myself pay anymore than that.
After testing these, I'd definitely recommend keeping them frozen...otherwise they seem to be sticky and gooey. LOL But they do taste pretty good. They are going to be my way to satisfy my sweet tooth. -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

I use the weirdest protein powder..it must be pure crap because I've never heard anyone else mention the brand name before, haha. What can I say, I'm poor. It's soy, but it was cheap, and I figure that's better than nothing. I almost never use it anyways. It is called "Nature's Plus Spiru-Tein." One scoop is 100 cals, no fat, 11 grams carbs, and 14 grams of protein. Then there's 100% of about every vitamin and mineral you could ever imagine. Anyways, just felt like sharing.

Probably no one's mentioned it because most people here use whey proteins. I've had Spirotein before. I bought a sample of the peanut butter fudge because it was one of the cheaper proteins at my co-op; unfortunately I did not fall instantly in love w/ the taste. LOL
I don't think it's pure crap; personally I like getting a protein w/ added vitamins and minerals and Spirotein has less fat and sugar than a lot of the soy proteins, like Total Soy which I quit buying since they totally dumbed down their formula, adding lots of sugar and dumping vitamins, minerals, and protein (DUH). |

Tub I buy is 2lb. The 100% Whey is about $18. The Pro Complex is more like $30s. That's what hubby uses. I can't use the Pro Complex...it gives me horrible stomach cramps and makes me violently ill.-------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

The tub I buy is the same one as you all are talking about, and I only pay $13. I get it at a local nutrition store (or I least I think it's local) called CostPlus nutrition store. It's a great deal. I know I'm so lucky :)
