No, I'd advise highly advise you against an overwhelmingly high protein diet, and your friend will gain that weight back within a couple weeks most likely.

It's very hard on your body. You loose weight very quickly and gain it all back as soon as re-introducing carbs. You feel very tired, and will likely have a headache the entire time. The bi-products of protein are excreted by your kidneys. Too much protein makes the kidneys work too hard. You will probably have diarrhea all the time to since carbs bulk up the stool and you won't be getting much carbs. On the other hand, you might be constipated because your fiber intake will be low. Since you won't be consuming much fruit or whole grains which have a lot of fiber in them. It's a bad idea. You atkins is bankrupt now because people are starting to see the dangers behind that diet.

Yep, bropie says it well. One problem with high protein low carb(very low) is the chance of carb intolerance. When and if you increase carbs again, it is kind of like filling a balloon with air.
And MIchelle, it is not true that too much protein makes the kidneys work too hard. Old school, very much wrong, somehow another one of those "conventional wisdom" things. No more than too much thinking makes the brain work too hard.
