I have been taking protein shakes now for awhile, and ma very pleased with the results. It's led to significant muscle gain for me. However, I am pretty close to being as big as I want to be. So, my question is this:

If I stop taking the protein shakes, etc., and go back to a more normal diet, will I lose the muscle I earned? In other words, is the muscle I have now dependent on my increased protein levels? Or, will I be able to maintain it just by continuing working out?

Thanks in advance...

well, if you stop working those muscles out, your body will see no use to having them, and since it takes your body a lot of work to keep them extra big, it'll just get rid of them... so if you want to keep the muscles, continue working them hard, and take your protein... not taking protein shakes will probably do you no harm (i've never taken a single shake), but it'll obviously keep you from reaching maximun results if you can't get as much protein as you did before... holla? good luck!

I didn't say anything about stopping working out. :) I was asking if cutting back on my protein now that I've reached my goals will cause me to lose muscle, even though I CONTINUE to work out. It seems to me that if keep working out the way I am and keep taking protein, that I will continue to grow. I want to grow anymore, I just want to stay where I am.
