I have a quick question about protein bars. If I lift weights and then do an hour of cardio, would still be ok to eat a pure protein bar afterwards even though it has been longer than 30 minutes since lifting? I have a plan to lift my weights tomorrow morning, which will be followed by a spinning class and then a PowerBar Protein Plus Bar. Is that ok and still beneficial to me? (I've lost a lot of muscle along with losing weight and I am trying to get a little back without really gaining much weight back)

Why not do your weight training after the cardio? It is recommended that for ultimate effect you should eat protein no later than 30 mins after your workout, but doing so is still beneficial to you. You could try slow release protein, which is taken before your workout.

Any protein after a workout is better than none. There are various studies that try to determine the optimum time to take protein after a workout and most have found the window to be 45 minutes following. Your results are optimal if you consume your protein immediately, but the difference between immediate and within 45 minutes is not overwhelming. I prefer to take my protein in liquid form for faster absorption, but a bar will do.

If you do your cardio first you will have significantly less energy to do your lifting. This may or may not be a bad thing depending upon your goals. If you are focused on gaining lean muscle mass then I would recommend making that a priority and doing your lifting first. If you are trying to lose weight then I think it is certainly acceptable to do cardio first.
