Since I am having a hard time eating my minimum amount of calories can I drink additional protein shakes each day or will I gain weight?
Right now I only eat lunch, dinner, after workout shake and a very light late night snack. Is it overkill to add one or two more shakes during the day? I am also concerned about overdose of the amino acids (if thats possible).
If it helps the brand I use is called Amplify (B-Lactoglobulin) made by RELEASE.

I think you would be okay adding one in as a midmorning meal/snack.
I don't think you can OD on amino acids - they go into a 'pool' and have to recombine, all of the essentials need to be present, then after a few days the leftover amino acids are flushed from the system (at least this is my understanding of it, I can look up a more technical version if it will put your mind at ease).
Don't you eat breakfast? Not eating breakfast has been proven to lower your metabolism - not someting you want if you are trying to lose weight.

I think I need someone to help with my eating structure. I do not eat breakfast since eating within the first two hours after I wake tends to make me sick to the stomach (due to the many medications I take). I also wonder if maybe I've developed unhealthy thoughts regarding food. As of now, my fitness plan suggest a max of about 2300 calories however I often eat less than 1200 for fear of gaining weight. I weigh each morning and if I notice even a 1/2 pound gain I cut even more calories for the day. Since the protein shakes are so low in fat I thought I could use them to up my calories without the fear of gaining weight (plus its only 6 ounces of fluid which doesn't make me feel bloated).
I can't afford a personal nutritionalist so any advice or input is both welcome and appreciated!

Your situation is tough to assist with because of the physical limitations. 1200 calories would be maintainance calories for a 110 to 120 lb person. At 180 lbs when you eat 1200 cals you are putting your body into starvation mode.
You really need the 5 or 6 small meals per day to boost and keep your metabolism up. I have a shake with egg whites a scoop of my favorite non whey protein, a little skim milk, splenda, cocoa etc. You can size the shake to meet your needs. I also am in the habit of having cottage cheese with a few nuts for a late night snack. The cottage cheese provides a slow releasing protein for bedtime.
Look in the sight's supplement advertising and check out meal replacements. They come in tons of flavors and you can find different protein/carb/fat blends to suit your needs.

BTW, the shake I mentioned is my breakfast. It's about 700 calories. I usually eat 3500 per day.

Where can I go to figure up my maintenance points? As you know I went from 235 down to 180 (now 179 since I started my routine) but can't seem to get the fat off in certain "pockets". As soon as I figure out how I will post a picture that was taken a week or so ago right before I started my routine. Maybe this will help in diagnosing what I need to do to meet my goal of being lean and defined.
I agree that my situation makes it somewhat difficult for members to give advice since the normal routines may not be feasible for me. I do however truly appreciate the input and hopefully (with members help) will stumble across something that works for me.

I wasn't complaining. I really admire your efforts in the face of adversity. The normal calorie range would be between 12 to 15 cals per day per pound of body weight. You'll have to play with it to work out your oun needs. Normally 12 cals would be in the cutting range and 15 cals in the bulking range.
You said it just right. Most of us stumble into the right range in the beginning. I suggest logging calories for a few months. Lets say you do your normal routine and eat 2100 calories a day. If youdo this for a month and your weight stays the same thats your maintainance plus exercise calories. Your maintainance calories would be say 1800, that beeing the calories you need to breath, sleep and poop.:big_smile: The experimentation come with figuring out how much you need to add to maintainance to meet your exercise needs.
Once you have a month of stable weight with your normal routine, you adjust calories upward or downward by 250 calories per day for a few weeks. So if you do your exercise routine at 2100 cals and stay steady weight-wise, you drop to 1950 cals per day for several weeks. Make sense? This really will become second nature to you with a few months of practice.

I tried to get a picture uploaded so you could get an idea of my body structure. I thought this might give you a better understanding of what I would like to achieve but evidently I didn't do something right.
Hopefully I will be able to figure it out soon.
