A load of bs andrew i have heard people ask this before and it is not good to do at all. During a workout all your blood is going to your muscles and buy ingesting a protein shake all that blood will be diverted back to your gut. Hence waiting an hour to an hour and a half after eating to workout. Wait till after your workout.

I believe it takes needed blood flow away from workingt muscles and to digestion instead. I would suggest your nutrition pre workout and post workout is the important factor.

Many folks will begin their recovery drink with about 15 minutes to go in their workout, espcially so if it was an extra long brutal workout. But, the main reason that even whey, as fast as it is, does not peak amino acid levels for up to an hour, it makes some sense to start your shake a bit early. You will have no digestion problems starting about 15 min. before ending your training session. This is strictly your call though.

what about waking up in the middle of the night and consuming a protein shake, does this have any good bad or null effects?

Never give up a good nights sleep for a shake. If you wake up, then feel free, but don't wake yourself up to do it.

dont force yourself... if you wake up, nice
if you put your clock in the middle of the night, you will get used to wake uo at this hour and not havin a good continous rest for muscles
