I had a large amount of protein today, I'm just wondering how protein is stored and for how long?

If I'm not doing much in a day (ie desk work then sleep) should I still try getting lots of protein for a workout in a day or 2 later? will it be stored or just wasted? Thanks!

One interesting thing to realize here, your body cannot store protein. That is the reason for the frequent protein feedings in the first place. There are 3 macronutrients, protein, carbs, and fat. I think we are all painfully aware of the bodies ability to store fat. Carbohydrates are stored in the form of glycoge, they are broken down to this form in the body. Glycogen is needed for energy for everything from muscle movement to brain function. The bad thing about carbs though is the reason you can gain fat from them, your body only holds ao much glycogen. So, when stores are full, guess what happens. But your body cannot store protein, thus the need for the frequent feedings to keep the supply coming. In answer to your second question, you do not gain in the gym contrary to popular belief. It is just the catalyst to ignite the process, your nutrient intake determines the amount of gains you get from your workouts. ON your resting days, it is very important to supply your body with adequate protein, those are the days you are actually repairing and hopefully growing. Hope this makes sense.
