There's something I've always wanted to be able to do, and I wonder how easy it is. I'd like to be able to pull myself up to a bar (so far so good), then push myself up from there so that my arms are pointing down at the bar. Is there any trick to this, or should I just keep on building up my shoulders, triceps, etc.?

I'm not TOO sure what your talking about.. I have seen some olympic people do things like that but they kinda roll first so their feet point out then swing up into this position.. i'm not too sure... you could do negatives or have someone spot you to 'assist' you on pullups to help you build that up.. but i'm not sure as far as the push part.. dips maybe?

Strength training. This requires much upper body strength...and don't forget about the forearms...

It's like this: say you were hanging from a ledge. You'd pull yourself up to the ledge, then push yourself up past it, to the point where you could bend your torso over the ledge, swing your leg over, etc. I can do the pull, I can do the push (like a dip), but I can't go from the pull into the push without assistance. Well, that's my goal, I'll keep working on it.
