push up handles

i got some i guess i will call them push up handles from a friend yesterday they come up off the ground about 5 or 6 inches off the ground and then you do push ups on them and i was wondering if any one else has these and could they explain some of the techniques for these i tried them last nite and i am cripples today big time thanks..........

I tried those once a long time ago...doesn't do anything for me. If you want to try something different, try doing pushups with 2 chairs. Basically, your feet are on an incline (maybe on the couch) while both your hands are on the edges of 2 chairs (the chairs are facing each other). Now do a standard pushup, but try to go as low as you can (without getting injured of course) on the negative.

If this isn't enough, try doing one-handed pushups or using only your fingers.

I like the chair idea. However, my personal favorite (and I still do this) is doing explosive pushups. Just do a regular push up, but on the way up push as hard as you can so your body accelerates and your hands come off the floor. If you get good at that, try to clap your hands together on the way up. I think these are actually fun to do.

:) I agree with jbennett! Claps are the best push ups. I find that if you are having problems with pushups a tip is to do crunches prior. Then when you do push ups...only your arms will get tired and not the overall body. :big_smile:

I love the clapping pushup.....it is actually a plyometrics exercise and recruits a lot of fast twitch fibers. I've got some friends that can actually clap behind their head while doing pushups, and one other friend (he's a beast for his size) that can push hisself up to standing position. You can also do diamond pushups where your thumbs and index fingers make a diamond on the floor. I think pushups can really help a lifter no matter how much they can bench.
