a program working 3days a week
a program working 5 days a week

how does the intensity and # of exercises per muscle group vary?
i only have time for 3 days a week, but i want to have an intense workout with a good # of exercises for the different muscle groups.
should i take a 5 day a week workout and fit it in my 3 day scheduel?

I think the only difference would be that the 5 day program includes forearm exercises...Though I think that you may also work your abs on more days with the 5, but you know the best way to find out is to just keep resetting your program and seeing what comes up for the 5 day vs the 3 day.

To work out more isn't necessairly better, as you said yourself, it's all a question about intensity.

Working out three days a week, but giving yourself 100 % to each work out will get you to the wanted results.

i am aware of all that, i am consistent with my training and i do take it seriously. I have never missed a schedueled training session because i budget my time. but my question hasnt been answered yet. the 5 day routines have more exercises for a specific muscle group of the day but the 3 day routine has fewer number of exercises which i dont find sufficient for me. should i set a 5 day routine and rearrange the muscle groupings to fit my scheduel? with my time allowance, i only have friday, sat, and sunday to workout with mond-thurs of rest.

the only thing I can think of, is what fits in your personal body. Listen more to your body not what a page says...If you feel like weights are to heavy lower them or if you feel like you can do a few more exercises them do them. Challenge your self but don't kill yourself at the same time.

Good point Tiff, clever words.

So many people simply stick to a certain number of reps or weight and don't really listen to their body.....

If you want to train only three days a week with intensity, then I'd just devide my body into three main parts. I'd do chest and back on the first day. Legs on the second day. Arms and shoulders on the third day. I've tried this before when I was in college near exam time and it worked great for me.

-I did 3 excercises for my chest and three for my back (only took an hour, but was real intense). I like doing chest and back since they're opposing muscles and you get a great pump out of it.

-I did my normal leg routine (it's intense enough).

-I then did super sets for my arms (do a set of biceps and then jump and do a set of triceps without taking a break... then take a break before the next super set). I did three super sets of arms, then did three sets for shoulders. This should only take around an hour too.

I agree that you can get a great work out from three days a week. I try to get 4 days in for one reason...my back day is way to hard to do with anthing else..it simply take to long. So my work outs look like this
Day 1 chest and arms
day 2 back
day 3 shoulders
day 4 legs
I find that I can do each work out in 45-60 mins, then hit the cardio (except on legs I have nothing left for that)
