I've just started taking a PWO shake, powerder with water. I read that dextrose and maltodextrine are often added to the PWO shake. Is there anything I should be adding or eating with my shake since I do not have the other supplements. I remember reading that you need carbs or simple sugars, can anyone give me some examples? Sorry if this has been answered in another post, I was unable to find it. Thanks!

If you "earn" it, then some simple carbs should indeed be had with your protein. If you do not have any dextrose, you can go to any drug store(walgreens for instance) and in the diabetic section they have glucose tabs(pure dextrose0. These will work fine.

So can I skip the dextrose and just eat a banana or have some orange juice instead?

Did some more research and these would not be the same. Is it ok if I just take the powder without adding maltose and dextrose even though it will not be as effective? Really sorry, new and confused about the whole thing.

The protein shake should be had with some simple sugars like bb1 mentioned, those found in the drugstore will suffice. They act as a catalyst for the protein. Like mentioned, "earn it".

Thanks for the info everyone, I'll try it out. Also I had a question about the shakes in the recipe tab, are you supposed to use a different protein powder other than whey since whey protein is fast absorbing? The shakes in the recipe section sounded like they are used at other times other than PWO since so many ingredients are added. Thanks again.

The other ingredients help slow digestion.
