Hey Yall,
My first day of working out starts today. I am so excited! My hubby is going with me to make sure I have the correct form etc when we work out tonight. He already has the experience. I have a couple of questions still. OK A Lot The calories recommended are 1705 and fat is up to 20.8. 1)Are these numbers that I should meet everyday or are they limits? I am not sure that I consume that much as it is. If I meet it I might be eating more than before 2)So if it is limits thats cool, but is that like a limit I should have considering my goal? My goal is really to drop 15 pounds, even inches more specifically, and after the poundage I want to focus on toning. I figure one at a time though right?! There have been a lot of posts about if it is right to lift and then do cardio for 45 min. My plan says lift for different body parts 6 out of 7 days and do cardio for 30-45 min for 3 days per week. 3) So what and when should I do with this combo? If I am lifting 6 days, then there will have to be days when I do cardio too, but I don't have the free time to run in the morning, wait 8 hours and then lift at night...so in one session should I do cardio and follow up with lifting, do lifting follow with cardio, mix it up? What should I do, I don't want to undo my muscle work because I did heart work right after it. And last but not least 4)When it comes to vitamins and eating right...I'm currently a no veggie/fruit/vitamin eater. I know, I know, but I've already heard it from my mom too (for 21 years). I guess if I having a fitness lifestyle change it should include eating right. So I would REALLY WELCOME any suggestions on how to slowly, gradually, become accustomed to these "foriegn foods" (cause that's what they are to me). Which ones are best and how on earth do you cook them so they taste good and are still healthy? Its a bunch of questions I know, but I am so glad I finally have a place to ask them. Yea for FT. Thanks yall! -------------- Did you eat your veggies today? |

Hi and welcome to FT!
First, fill out your profile, it will help us help you. Second, your diet means everything. Results, good or bad, start in the kitchen. Check out the Bodybuilder's Grocery List post. I use fitday.com to track my nutrition, it's just easier for me than FT nutrition tracker. It's a matter of personal preference. Also, use the fitBuddy located at the bottom of the screen to search for specific topics. And ask lots of questions, that's the best way to learn. Good luck and have fun at the gym! -------------- Anni ******* Freud was WRONG! |

if you don't normally eat 28 grams of fat then you don't eat much in the way of nuts/seeds/fish/beef/pork/lamb/milk eh? Do you eat chicken/turkey/quorn/tofu or any proteins much? And no veggie/fruit you say so that leaves you with only DUST??? Well it's low calorie.
It sounds like your food lifestyle needs attention. If you don't eat enough your body will hold on to fat to save its own life. So do go for the 1705+ with the exercise regime too. But make sure you get a good balance in fruit, veg, cereals, proteins etc... Watch your weight weekly and trim back 200 calories a day for a week and see what comes right for you. |

Welcome to FT. 6 days a week lifting is a little much for a beginner - what did you put in for your level and goals?
if you haven't been exercising, start with 1-2 cardio sessions - your heart needs to get fitter, too. if you jump into a cardio ruotine without gradually increasing your fitness level you will fatigue your heart. A total body, large muscle group workout is sufficient for beginners, then you could move to a more advanced routine in a few months. You could do total body Monday, Wednesday, Friday and do cardio Tuesday/Thursday for now. A large portion of your success in changing your body/lifestyle is going to be eating right. Start by picking a fresh vegetable out and learning how to cook it. most people i know who hate vegetables ahve never had them cooked right. Each week, try a new vegetable. As you cut out junkfood/processed foods, your palate will adjust and you will taste the flavors in natural food more. Welcome to Ft! Stick around and learn all you can! -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

============ Quoting from neiltilley: if you don't normally eat 28 grams of fat then you don't eat much in the way of nuts/seeds/fish/beef/pork/lamb/milk eh? Do you eat chicken/turkey/quorn/tofu or any proteins much? And no veggie/fruit you say so that leaves you with only DUST??? Well it's low calorie. Well off of that list, I eat chicken, beef, and sometimes turkey (3-4 times a year). I do eat a lot of ham (on sandwiches and stuff.) I also do like milk just fine. I did the whole nutrition tracker yesterday for the first time and I really need to build up the protein and carb section to meet the goals. But I was almost dead on in the cals and fat section. Asimmer-what should I be doing for total body workout. I thought that was considered cardio? I will go back and change my lift goals to three times a week and cardio for twice a week. Is it still ok to make my cardio sessions 45 min? Thanks for the suggestion on veggies and workout, looks like it worked for you ::dumbbell: Anni-thanks for the welcome, I will be sure to look up the body builders grocery list. Funny thing, Im going grocery shopping today. Oh I did fill out the profile, It may take a while to get pics though. Any tips for that first soon to be famous veggie of the week? or how to cook it? -------------- Did you eat your veggies today? |

One of my favorite veggies is asparagus. Take fresh asparagus, sprinkle with a little sea salt and olive oil and cook it on the grill. It's fabulous!

If you haven't been doing cardio, start with 20 minutes and work up gradually by adding a few minutes a week to each session.
See what the program gives you for 3 days a week. let me know if it doesn't look like a routine you want. A total body workout isn't cardio if you are lifting heavy and resting inbetween sets. If you did a fast circuit it could be considered cardiovascular. I love broccoli - buy it fresh, cut it into pieces (throw the stems or peel them and chop them up, too), place in a microwavable dish, add a tbsp or two of lowfat chicken broth, cover and microwave 3-4 minutes, until bright green and tender but not gray and soggy. Sprinkle with cayenne peepper and salt, mmm. -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |
