I just finished my tricep/bicep FT workout which consisted of lying tricep extensions, dips behind the back, barbell preacher curls, and reverse barbell curls.

I did all four of each set before moving to the next exercise. However, would it be a problem if in the future I work through each set of all the exercises preceeding one another rather than doing 4 complete sets before moving to the next exercise?

I ask this because then I could do each set with the same beginning weight. Then, I could add more weight for the second set. So on and so forth.

It would therefore take less time to keep changing the weight amounts for each set of each exercise. Make sense?

Thanks!! :)

Phimugirl,
It makes sense.
I have considered doing this as well. The only problem I see is that ideally you should only wait 30-45 seconds between each set. This would not give you much time to complete another exercise in between.

:) I'm sure with more time and becoming more accustomed to each exercise it won't take me as long to change out the weights for each set!! It probably is best to complete each set for one exercise before going on to the next.

Thank you!! :)

you can superset or even triset your excercises, i do this when i feel like i need to get a kick in the rear. if you're not familiar with the method, you perform one set of an excercise and then immediately follow it with another excercise. then you wait roughly 30-45 seconds and repeat the excercises in the same way.

i once did a triset routine that went something like this:

triset 1:
one-arm dumbbell rows
10 x 35 | 8 x 35 | 8 x 35 | 10 x 35
incline dumbbell curls
10 x 22.5 | 8 x 22.5 | 8 x 22.5 | 6 x 22.5
overhead triceps dumbbell extensions
10 x 45 | 8 x 45 | 8 x 45 | 10 x 45

triset 2:
machine pulldowns
10 x 121 | 8 x 121 | 6 x 121 | 6 x 121
standing cable curls
10 x 70 | 8 x 70 | 6 x 65 | 8 x 65
reverse grip tricep pulldowns
10 x 75 | 8 x 75 | 8 x 85 | 6 x 95

triset 3:
low back extensions
10 x 90 | 8 x 115 | 6 x 115 | 6 x 120
standing dumbbell curls
10 x 20 | 8 x 25 | 1 set static curls, 16 x 12.5 | 6 x 17.5
lying triceps extensions
10 x 45 | 8 x 45 | 8 x 45 | 6 x 45

thankfully that was in my online journals and all i had to do was cut and paste

anyway, this is a good way to shock muscles and get a little variation into your workout. just make sure you do it correctly!

Wow, Howdie!!

Thank you for posting this for me. I'll definitely give it a try once I learn the ropes a little more. I'm looking forward to increasing my weights.

I did 30's on barbell preacher curls and reverse barbell curls. My husband came in as I was doing them. He said, "WOW, I never thought you'd actually be/get this into working out with weights! You're already using 30 lb weights on the barbell to do these exercises? You're stronger than I thought you were on top!" :)

Now, with him being 6'3" (208 lbs) and me being 5'4" (143 lbs) I didn't expect to hear that. He sat down to do the rbc with the 30's and said that it was beginning to hurt him from where he got an injury while building houses. So, I might just be in some pretty good shape when he begins working out with me sometime early next year. WOOHOO!!!

way to go on your progress! if you need any more suggestions feel free to hit me up for advice. since i don't have time to get certified, i have to be a "virtual personal trainer." i have a whole bag full of superset routines, but a warning - you will be exhausted when you finish. but it's a good exhausted if that's any consolation! good luck with everything!

:) Thank you Howdie!! Hey, a virtual personal trainer will be great too!! Maybe, you'll surprise yourself and sometime down the road you'll be able to achieve certification. I definitely see it in you and with the progress you've had thus far. Keep up the GREAT work!!
