I was told by one of my friends that his trainer has warned him against doing too much of Reclining Bench Press as it may be harmful to nerve cells in the brain. I don't believe this ... but is this true ? :)

What was he talking about? The only thing I can think of is when you do reclining or decline bench press you do increase the blood flow to the head and that can bulid pressure. For some with bad blood pressure that could be a problem. However I have never heard of any one causing harm to ones nerve cells in the brain from doing that exercise.

Yup...you can die from it...especially if you're working with heavy weight and you drop them on your head (LOL). Seriously, I would ask that trainer for some published studies on this.
Also, Mutt, the blood flow is system-wide in resistance training. However, this also holds true for aerobic training. Does this mean you can damage the brain's nerve cells as well???

I have no idea I have been lifting for more than a few years and I still feel smart..though my wife might argue with you on that one LOL

Get off the bench once your set is over for your rest time and your not gonna get to much blood flowing to your head. That is silly. I like doing declines and have never heard of anything like that before.

The important thing is, and this is true when getting off the bench after doing flat benches, to NOT get right up. The best way, if you could is to roll on your side and get up that way or sit up for 30-60 seconds before standing up. People usually get right up after their set and then orthostatic hypotension sets in and you get light headed. This is due to a lower pressure in the brain.

I have never had any problem with my bench with light headed....deadlifts on the other hand I have blacked out once....that was bad I had scraps all the way from my knees to ankles...

The only 2 things I have ever heard of declined bench presses is that people usually just do it because they can bench more than they can on a flat / incline bench. Probably because of the distance you have to go to get 1 rep is much shorter. Also that it may make your "tits" droop a bit. I do not do them for this reason lol. I would much rather do inclines.
