I am not a big red meat eater but because of my husbands new diet, we have cut down from 2-3 times a week to just one. (we have been doing this for about 4 weeks now) This last week I have been craving nothing but a huge steak. (Usually when i crave because of stress etc. its for sweets) Any thoughts? I was thinking that i might me missing someother nutrient, would vitamins help?

Have the steak.....Nothing Like a 1" thick NY sirloin steak. Not much fat there. Any red meat ending in loin is pretty lean. Don't remember where I read that!

Have the steak, just make a very lean one, Calories are higher if you are counting, but you can satisfy your craving, that's a easy one, chocolet is my craving problem!!!!!!

Beef is excellent protein. A couple times a week is fine. In fact it is a good way to keep calories up when dieting. As mentioned, ending in loin is normally good. I usually opt for 93% lean or better. Your iron may be low, or B vitamin. You may want to investigate your vitamin aspect as well.

thanks everyone, the only problem is , If I eat the steak then I will feel bad eating it in front of my husband who has finally gotten motivated to do something about his weight... maybe I'll have to sneak out for lunch or something. I really feel like i need to be very supportive of him right now and do everything I can not to discourage him.
Thanks also for the suggestion of "loin" meats I will have to keep them in mind for our "treat" this week. :)

That is very good of you to be supportive of your husband, especially if he just started. Those kind of things feed off each other, and he will support you too. Great to hear, you will be a fit and healthy family!

Don't forget the round steaks, those are even leaner. Anything with "loin" or "round" in the name is acceptable in a 'clean' diet.

I usually crave red meat whenever my iron level is down. If you are craving meat for any other reason than the taste then I would suggest taking a multivitamin to boost your iron level, besides, a few extra vitamins/minerals never killed anyone.
