My gym recently replaced most of the cable equipment with hammerstrength stuff. What I would like to know, is this really better? I really felt I got a good workout in with the wide grip cable pulldowns, the close grip ones, seated cable rows etc. Now it has all been replaced with fixed machine equipment. Is it just in my mind, because I can't help but feel like the cables were better. Maybe I am just not fond of the change...?

That is frustrating - i like both!

Is it the hammerstrength that you can put plates on, or the hammer strength with fixed stacks?

The free weight hammer strength equipment is pretty nice - the handles move independatly and it has a nice range of motion.

Stop trying to use this as an excuse for me stomping your ass in the Mutt challenge!

Would it be classified as overly competitive if I refused to let a 4 year old beat me at chutes and ladders?

Hammer strength stuff is great.

that kinda stinks that they replaced the cables with the other machines. My gym fortunately has both. Have you checked to see if they just placed them somewhere else?

I have noticed that she does that quite often. I hope she has a good one August 1...when I'm wearing the coveted Mutt medal.:laugh:

Puh-leeez. This is by no means an excuse as I will kick all yer butts regardless in the Mutt Comp. Makes no difference :) I just seriously miss the cables :(

Amy- it's the HS stuff you can stack the weights onto. Since the reaction here is pretty positive, I guess it's just up to me to get used to them, quit whining and shut up and lift :angry::dumbbell::angry::angry:

Actually, (seriously) almost like free weights. But you will find the movement even smoother than the cables.

Thanks Ivan - I was wondering if the fact that I wasn't using my stabilizers as much, whether my workouts suffer. Seems easier somehow - glad it won't :)

Amy - you are right. 3 different H-Strength chest exercises made me a little sore the next day. Note to Self: Remember glutamine post workout!!!!
