ok, im a beginer in every sense of the word, but i am kinda confused about sets. when the workout plan tells u to do four sets, shud i do four sets of the exercise x, one after another with a rest in between, and then on to four sets of exercise y and so on, or shud i do a set of exercise x, then do one of exercise y, then z! help!

The norm is to do all four sets of a given exercise and then move on. I'm not sure what you mean by one after another, but you need a slight rest period between sets.

There isn't any one answer for that one as it depends on your recovery ability. I don't time my rest breaks but use a trip to the water fountain between sets. Roughly 30-45 seconds for a normal session and up to a couple of minutes if you're training really heavy.
