I've been doing deadlifts for a few weeks now. I try to do romanian deadlifts where I bend my knees, but as I'm coming down the bar is in the way so I can't bend my knees. Is this a problem with my form?

Are there any advantages to romanian over stiff leg or stiff over romanian-- or just the fact that romanians work your legs more?

You must be letting your knees move forward as you bend. you need to stick your butt way back and get your weight onto your heels. Also, make sure you're not rounding your back as you go down...remember butt back, chest out. Spreading your feet and pointing your toes out a bit may help as well. Correct your form or you're going to hurt yourself!

Q#2, I think doing both is a good idea. I find that the SL DL's work my back and hams more and the romainian work my quads more and certainly gets my heartrate up more!

If your knees get in the way of a romanian, you are bending your knees way to much. With a romanian, your knees should bend as little as possible while still allowing for a tight arch in the back.

Here is a great article that shows the difference between these 2 lifts.
