Hi all,

I'm looking for advice on a "routine." I use quotes because my job is very annoying and unpredictable. I could have 2 weeks without work ( or 2months:( !) with a moments notice, or I may be working 80+ hours a week for a month & only get a chance to hit the gym 1x /week.

What would be an effective program for conditioning that would work with such "schedule." If I'm not working I usually do weights 2x/week, cardio (30-50min) 3x/week, + 1.5 hour judo class 3x/week. Even watching what I eat I still need to drop 30#.

Any suggestions woud be appreciated!

Hey, welcome to FT.

How do you eat? What and when?

I would think that when you aren't working, lift heavy, every other day or a split routine 4 days on, 1 day off, cardio 3 times a week, preferably 20 minutes HIIT. Judo is good exercise, but, depending on how long you have been doing it, you may have adapted to it, so keep it in your routine, but add the rest (weights more often and cardio).

When you are working, try to squeeze in 20 minutes of HIIT where you can (get up a little eearlier, it will actually give you more energy, or do it on your lunch break) Get to the gym once a week and lift total body, heavy. This will maintain what progress you have made when you weren't working. Then hit it again when you are off work.

Losing weight is going to have much to do with your diet. It wil take some planning and effort, but a lot of people with very hectic schedules manage to eat a healthy, balanced diet.
