I started marathon running about 1 year ago, and am now looking to combine this with some level of bodybuilding.
I'm thinking of doing 3 mo. weightlifting, followed by marathon training, then 3mo. weight...and so on.
Any thoughts or advice?

I would include some amount of weight training year round in conjunction with your marathon training. You can use high rep, fast workouts and still stay lean for your running races. The weight training should give you an added advantage. As long as you are stretching and running do not be afraid to weight train. I would weight train at least 3-days per week during race prep time and 4 to 5 days per week in the off season.

I 've won the second place in a 7Km marathon on the city I live in...and still I work out 4 to 5 days a week. one month before the race i started to concentrate my workouts on legs ad mid section...2 days before the race i stopped workouts completely to let my body rest and prepare for the race.

Running is good for bodybuilding but marathons ear muscle, bodybuilding builds muscle. Either your going to be to muscular to run or hurt your joints trying to build muscle that was just used on a run. I wouldn't recommend it but try it and see how it works.

I think you should do them both together

you can prepare for the marathon by doing a lot of reps (20-25) - more sets (4-5) and using light weight...that's muscular indurance unfortuantley you can't easily combine hypertrophy( mass building) with muscular indurance because there 2 differet but u can probably work something out
