Hi everyone.

I am new to the board and stumbled across it while using google. The questions asked seemed to have some very wise and knowing answers so I figured this would be a good place to ask.

Here is my question: What are good supplements/prohomormones that will help with running?

Background: I am an avid runner looking to take my workouts and PR's to the next level. I have done some research but nothing comes up as a "Useful for running" supplement. I have read that 4-AD is good for running. Is it? I dont know anyone that knows much about the running side of prohomones so the internet was the next best thing. I am 21 and in good condition. I lift, used to be a major goal for me, but now am really trying to get my running in full gear before I run out of time.

Any help is much appreciated.

what are you doing this for? 'before you run out of time' ? do you mean the upcoming ban on prohormones?

there are many other ways to improve your running then just take steroids/pro-hormones....you haven't done much research on this....so I suggest you do....but my suggestion would be not to do it.....you have no real incentive to risk messing up your health for some quick gains

The ban is one reason. I know its coming very quickly and was curious to know if there was anything worthwhile out there. I have tried to research, the problem lies with trying to find articles that use running as the stimulus. Thats why I asked here.

I'm not looking for fast gains either. Thats one thing I know about, nothing is going to come easy. I dont plan on changing my routine one bit. I guess the real reason Im looking for this is because this past fall I banged up my knee pretty good. It healed up alright but when i was on the table they saw i had already had degenerating tissue under my kneecap. They did what they could but you cant stop nature. So within a few years I wont be able to be out there running anymore as I am still able to do now. I guess thats the real reason why im looking to get the edge now....before Im done for life.

Im not trying to find out how to take years off of my life or how to harm myself. If i wanted to do that i could go to a dealer and buy a lot of everything and say screw it and see how messed up my organs can become. Once again, thats why i came here to try and find some answers.

Hi Nick, welcome to FT.

I have to tell you that you just won't find much, if any, support for steroid use here. Don't spend any real energy worrying about excelling now, before the aging process catches up with you. Look at Lance Armstrong and all of the obstacles that he has faced. I realize that he bikes and you run, however the key is taking good care of yourself and to always keep pushing. There is no way to know what the future holds for you, but don't mess it up by turning to steroids because the tradeoff isn't worth it.

what distance are you running?
are you planning to compete at any point?
Are you taking any supplements at the moment?
Why are the prohormones about to banned?

Anni, very underdtandable and I have approached it from that angle. Nothing is impossible. And I understand where you're coming from with the health factor, very important.

I plan on running 5 km, possibly 10 km, or maybe jump in some track meets. That wont be for about 6-8 weeks from now though and I will try and follow a typical track schedule through atleast June. Currently Im not taking any supplements except for a multivitamin once, sometimes twice a day(depending on the intensity of the workout).

One last thing for this one, maybe I should have rephrased the title. I didnt want to seem like it was "prohomones or nothing" kind of attitiude. I was curious as to what others have tried/have knowledge about that they could share. Whether that knowledge is about a legal supplement, soon to be illegal, or something you have to buy from a street pharmacist (know what I mean?) I was just curious as to what would help a runner.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Nick, I'm not really sure what supplements would help, other than glucosamine to protect your joints. The other supplements that I'm aware of are effective for sprinters only.

If you do find anything else, or decide to take glucosamine, make sure you get them from a reputable supplier, especially if you intend to compete at a level which has drug testing, as there have been cases of supplements being contaminated with banned substances.

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
