I am new, dumb, old and I have asthma. In addition, I have artery disease which causes me to have cramps in my calves and sometimes pain in my feet when I walk a short distance. I can't walk 10 minutes without the pain showing up. On top of all of that I hate to work out and it is hard for me to keep working out.

If I keep going will the pain eventually stop? If not, what do I do for cardio? Do I just drop the cardio?

I have attempted to start a fitness program several times but each time I end up dropping out without any success at all. I have a set of weights at home, an abdominal wheel, and I have a gym membership that I've kept for 4+ years even though I hardly go there.

I am going to try it again, starting 2/7/05, because the system says I should start then.

Please give me some advice on how to keep myself motivated, and answer my questions if you are knowledgeable enough.

Hmmm.......well if its ok to excercise( doc says its ok) Only thing I can tell ya to do is set goals.

An easy one would be go out and buy a nice new shirt and pants....only thing is buy them one size smaller......so if you wanan wear those, you gonna have to bust some ass lol.

Get a workout log, keep up with yoru weights, excercises and reps........thats the best thing I have every started doing......i can look back and see I have added over 35lbs for reps on my benching......50+ for squats and dls etc. To me seeing the numbers go up, is my modivation.

IF your just wanting to loose weight, keep a log and log in once a month waist size, bicep size quad size....... and weigh yoru self maybe once a week....or every other week, and keep up with that......nothing liek seeing the numbers go down.

Your gon ahev to get a good diet going too.....i'm not talking about a fad diet......but a lifestyle change diet....wher eyou eat healthy all the time.

but only person thats gonna
make you hit the weights is you.........

Good luck, keep us posted :dumbbell:

why not try swimming(this is non-impact activity and at the very least should be the one you should try first)? ...what about spinning classes?....stairmasters?...most gyms have these ....if yours doesn't have a swimming pool...find a public one....they are usually fairly cheap/accessible...

ImfatnIwanabfit no matter if we all live to be 100...we will all still be ignorant at something...therefore asking help in an area where you're new is nothing to be ashamed of nor reason to call yourself dumb....we're all constantly discovering all things and are ignorant at many more...21,41, 61, or 101 doesn't matter....at least you're here and trying to change your lifestyle....

Yes there have been studies done that show when people work through moderate pain (for lower back for example) they are able to overcome it and have it stop completely vs physical therapy which although is easier but a lot less effective....(this was published in Wall Street Journal a couple years back)....hope this helps...
