Hi. My name is Staci. I am 28 years old. I am 5'6" tall and weigh 198 lbs. I have a large build and my goal weight is 150 lbs. I have been exercising for about four weeks with NO results yet (probably because I am JUST exercising, I havent changed my diet at all). My routine includes 5-6 days of cardio. I do 45 minutes to an hour of cardio and I alternate upper and lower body weights for a total of 4 days a week of weight lifting. I also am very active when I'm not at the gym because I have four small children to take care of and am a stay at home mom so I am always doing something.. How many calories a day should I be eating to lose 2-3 lbs per week?
I desperately want to lose this weight and am getting very frustrated so I would like some tips on how to do this without going on a "diet" because I dont do well with "diets". I did the low carb thing and lost 28 lbs, but then I gained it all back plus some as soon as I started eating carbs again. I guess that's all I can think of for now. I just stopped in to introduce myself. I had typed out a profile but I dont have a picture of myself (I dont allow anyone to take pictures of me looking like this!)so it didnt work without a picture. My suggestion would be to cut back on the cardio and work more on the weight training. Lifting more weights will build more lean muscle which will burn more calories while your are doing nothing. If you can try to eat healthy foods every 2-3 hours a day. This is the first time I have eatin like this and I feel like I am always eating and I am never hungry. There are some sample diets online look to see if there is anything you could handle. Good Luck and Welcome.-------------- Dont Expect Results, Earn Them! Lance |

Hi! I, too, want to lose to 150 pounds. I am at 223 right now (scale said 222 this morning, but I want to be sure before I get all excited - usually wait two days before celebrating!). I don't diet, I refuse to diet, I am watching what goes in my mouth though and working out quite often. It is working, I have lost 17.5 inches in 4 weeks - course that is all over, but let me tell you, I love it! Just try what works for you, I eat like livers20 says, more meals, but healthy, and split my calories throughout them making it easier, too.
Good luck to you and enjoy FT! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

Hi Staci. My name is Jen and I just was browsing the website and found your message. I am 23 years old, 5'4" and 173 pounds (3 years ago I weighed 220). In response to your questions I would suggest trying the following:
Maybe try increasing the intensity of your workout by 5-10%. Like if you are walking on the treadmill at 4mph try 4.4 mph. I have noticed that with my exercising that when I increased the intensity by small amounts I have seen results. Also, from what I know someone your age should have there heart rate around 140 when doing cardio. It is also good that you didn't change your diet right away. Many studies have shown that changing both your diet and exercise routine at the same time can be difficult for many and increases your chance of failure (returning to old habits). From what I have read, I have learned that it is better to start the exercising first. You get into that routine and then you can modify your diet. Just like you I don't like diets. I prefer to follow the food pyramid (the only thing approved by the FDA) and call it a LIVE-IT when people ask. As for how many calories you should eat everyday, I would suggest getting your resting metabolic rate tested. This takes the guess work out of it and I got mine done at my gym,... so your gym might offer it also. --- I also should point out that a nutritionist I work with told me that if you decrease your calorie intake before you increase your level of exercise your metabolism slows down. Another thing that has helped me with my eating habits has been my food journal. I write down EVERYTHING I eat and it really does help. It took awhile before I was able to become honest with myself and write down everything, but it was when I was honest that I saw the changes happen. Anyway, this is a really long reply. I hope that this helps you out. Jen (jdarvell) ============ Quoting from StaciLeigh76: Hi. My name is Staci. I am 28 years old. I am 5'6" tall and weigh 198 lbs. I have a hard time changing my eating habits, period. I agree with the previous posters. Add some weights for more of a calorie burn, and concentrate on getting in the groove of exercising, before extremely changing your diet. I try to concentrate on how well actually excercising makes me feel, instead of the weight I may, or may not be losing. Because I haven't completely altered my diet yet, I focus on burning AT LEAST 300 calories in one trip to the gym, and you can easily do that with weights and cardio. The hard part about that is, if you haven't changed your diet, to not add anything new to it. Just because you burn calories, doesn't mean you can take a few more in, and lose weight. Oh, and even though it may not be reflected in the scale, you may be losing fat, but gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so your "loss" may not be reflected on the scale like you would want it to. If you haven't already discussed your weight loss goals with your doctor, please do. All "diets" are not made for all people. You are going in the right direction with the excersice, but maybe you're just not doing the right ones? In the meantime, keep the excercise up, but consider a trip to the doctor, or nutritionist to figure out your exact needs to hit the goal you are trying to hit. Good luck to you, I'll be thinking about you!
