usually my one hard core lift is between 4 and 5 sets( latly 5)'
the other depening on what i'm looking for are between 3 and four. I'more endomorphic so my reps are kinda crazy
leg day
squats 5 sets( not counting warm up)usually 5x5
leg press 5x10
box deadlifts 3x8
hamstings( one excercise curls or stiff legged) 3x10
lunges or step ups( tell a good burn)
this i can get done in a hour or hour in a half depeing how my knees are feeling
if your trying to burn more calores, less rest
if your trying to gain strenght and size, rest more often so your at maximal strenghth.

I'm on 3 sets 8 reps most things and rest for max 90 seconds between. But am thinking of going to 4 sets with same time constraints, thinking this is another way of increasing the overall load/resistance in a session.
I also like drop setting and partials from time to time. But it's all opinion more than science as we can all prove why we do our thing with facts and figures- The winner will always be how you feel about it. But 8 to 12 week cycles of change seem popular all over

Sets are something you vary, like time and intensity. Pick a ruotine, try it for a few weeks, switch the rep range, or snumber of sets for a few weeks.
This will also depend on how many bodyparts you are working, if you are trying to bring up a lagging bodypart, different things.
-------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight.

I would say stick to 8-10 reps 3-4 sets and there should be 15 seconds between each set.
