Im 18 and have been working out for a year now, non stop. And my muscles are developing well with out any protein shakes. I was just wondering is there a time when i should start taking protein shakes to see quick and increasing results. I have heard from people that protein shakes can harm your kidneys and liver and thats the only reason why i dont take it.

But since this is a board with alot of experinced body builders, i would like to hear your point of view.

If what you are doing is working don't change anything yet. If you are getting your recommended daily intakes from real foods, more power to you. When you find that you need more protien than you can eat, that is when you start adding supplements. Most here have a protein drink or shake immediately after a weightlifting workout as that is when your muscles need it most. As for the kidney/liver comment, I've never heard that.
