Shaving Chest Hair

colgin Posts: 35 Joined: 2002/11/18	2003/01/16, 01:43 PM While I don't feel ready to take the plunge and shave off all of my chest hair, I do want to trim it for some intermediate progress photos. I have heard Wahl recommended as a good manufacturer of clippers. Does anyone have a specific model that they can recommend? My local drugstore has a bunch of different models. I assume it is best to use a beard trimmer for this as opposed to a trimmer for shaving your head, although I am not really sure. A friend of mine says he trims by just very carefully using a straight razor in a light downward brushing motion over his hair without using shaving cream. This sounds a little dicey to me. Any suggestions are, as usual, appreciated. ---------------------------- Peter New York, New York
rev8ball Posts: 3,081 Joined: 2001/12/27	2003/01/16, 02:49 PM i use a wahl for my head... damn good razor! i had to have my chest shaved once for a 15 lead cardio stress test. disposable razor, no cream, and i am quite hairy...UGH, those next few weeks as it was growing back were horrible!!!!! if you're going to do it, plan on staying with it, otherwise you will itch yourself to death...LOL! -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!"

I had to shave my bf's every other day and to be honest from a womans point of view, caressing his chest just wasn't the same it was very stubbly..LOL -------------- Bettia.... blaksimba Posts: 10 Joined: 2002/10/23	2003/01/22, 02:38 AM try nair.... it's not messy at all and it make your skin feel smooth. it's also safer than an electric razor when it comes to infections. electric razors and beard trimmers actually lift and pull the hair out and sometimes that can cause infectious bumps. try it ! it works!

houseofdiet Posts: 161 Joined: 2003/01/07	2003/02/01, 02:09 PM london, you could probably buy wax, any drug store caries it. I'm with the others though... Nair, its way less painful. Wax just sticks to the hair and you have to yank it out. ouch!

bb1fit Posts: 11,105 Joined: 2001/06/30	2003/02/01, 03:49 PM Be careful with some of those rub on type hair removers. Always do a small test patch first. I can tell you first hand this. Luckily I did this my last contest, thought I would try that stuff they advertised from australia called epil-stop. I tried it on my forearm a little first, and man, it broke out in big red welts, almost wasn't gone in time for the contest. Needless to say, went back to the electric razor first, then finished up with a regular razor. -------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail!

My friend also vowed to never help me put it on my back again because of that smell! haha Maybe I can just go to a professional with all the money I'm saving from qutting smoking. ;)

I get my eyebrows done with wax, at the salon. even though someone elso is doing the pulling, it still hurts, alot, and that is only a small thing compared to haveing your chest waxed. i say use the nair and hold your breath. I think they have even attempted scented nair.

Everything there was huge, like the counter that the sales guy stood at was about 6 feet off the ground with super high ceilings so everyone was looking down at me. I could hardly even reach the handles on the giant glass doors to get in the place. So I say to the clerk, "I want some wax cause I'm super buff!" haha Dreams are weird.

We all walked by one of those Panasonic Epilady (spelling?) which remove the hair from the root. Anyways, suddenly someone applied it to my eyebrow and it was some serious pain as I struggled to push it away. I never slept well after that experience!!! aj
colgin Posts: 35 Joined: 2002/11/18	2003/02/17, 10:49 PM Thanks for the advice. I ended up going to a salon where they use clippers (I think they used a Wahl professional model). They recommended waxing but I was not up for the pain. I was pleased with the results. However, there was some itching (of course) for the first few days. I used Aveeno anti-itch cream for the first few days which really helped. -------------- Peter New York, New York
