Ok guys, while doing dead lifts do you wrap your knees and upper shins or do you relish the scraping and bloody aftermess? After my first set tonight adding more weight than I have before, I found my knees nice and scraped. On the next sets I really had to concentrate on not trying to pull the bar away from my body, using my arms to almost swing the bar away from my knees and upper shins. Maybe its just me but does everybody go through that, and after time you get use to it and your knees build up a nice callous. I?ll keep doing it either way, just wanted some other insight on it.

I just scrape them you build a callous to apoint. You can get shin guards and or special socks....or like me I just smear on chalk and pull.

Soccer socks help and are required in some competitions.

Finding a bar with a little less knurling can help to, but then you have to figure a way to hold onto it.

DON'T USE CHALK!!! Chalk is used to increase friction. You're trying to reduce friction on your shins. Baby powder works better. Use chalk on your hands ONLY.

well just a note....friction slows things down....so by dragging your slowing the lift. FYI

Get your bicep curling, cut off shirt, matching workout outfit wearing, flexing in mirror "toned" wanna-be ass , out of my squat rack!

Don't talk to me, only thing that should be moving is the bar.

But for many people, by dragging they are putting themselves in the most biomechanically efficient position.

Some people drag, some don't. There is no one way is better.

i guess i dont pull back enough... i rarely scrape my shins... it might hit my knees, but they i typically get caught up on my thighs anyway. doin something wrong?

Not necessarily. It depends on your leverages. I have a friend who never drags, and he pulls well over 6 at under 200lbs bodyweight.

A longer legged person would probably have to a little...

I like to wear nylon or knit shorts to lift in they are smooth, and slick....cause I do drag my quads...cause of their size.
