I am 17 years old and live at home with my parents and sister.
I have decided to avoid all white bread, white sugar, white flour, and trans fat. Also, I try to not eat white potatoes and butter.
My family, however, doesn't seem to care so much and it's really bothering me. They do avoid trans-fat which I like, but they are puting all this food that is high glycemic and high fat into their bodies.
My sister is 14 and only weighs about 90 pounds. She can wear a size 1 dress and has always been slender no matter what she eats. Because of this she has no motivation to eat healthy. She thinks healthy wholesome foods are gross.
My parents would like to be in better shape, but they don't change how or what they eat. My thinking is that if you want something to change then do what you can to make that happen. It's so frustrating sometimes.
What am I to do? Give into some white flour to "conform" more to their eating habits? Should I just shut up and mind my own business? Am I too extreme?
Please hit me with loads of advice--hard or lightly!
Thanks!!!

abmagic - stick with a healthier diet for yourself, but don't impose your dietary discipline on others.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
When they are truly fed up with being out of shape, then offer your advice. Until then be an example of how good a healthy lifestyle can make you feel. it gives you energy and helps you remain upbeat. Eventually people notice and want to know where you get all of that energy. Spring it on them!
Relax, it is good for you.
