on my twelve week program i found that my weakest point is doing shoulder routines especially with dumbells such as lateral raises etc, i had to go to a lateral raise type machine should i stay on machines untill i can get my shoulders stronger? i would really like to use the dumbells but i just cant right now

Keep up the good work. try lowering the weight for your lat raises, and make sure your form is correct, don't forget keep your palms facing the floor, and bend your knees slightly, and don't arch your back in the upward motion. Don't be embarressed to try this with 10lbs in each hand. The key here is to feel it, and proper form. Hope this helps.

I agree carivan. When performing lateral raises, weight is NOT an issue. You should focus more on the movement, and less on the weight used.

I agree with carivan... I have trouble with the leteral raises myself. for my program at ft they have me doing 16 reps the first 12 the second 10 the third and 8 the last I start off .. you'll laugh .. 5 lbs .. that I can feel but i get the 16 in ok then i move to 8 lbs .. can feel it more got the 12 in with minimal pain then 10 lbs .. it hurt by the 10th rep but i did it and the last for 8 reps i do 12 lbs... That one is hard to finish but i do it.... just lower the weight till you can do it and after a time you'll get stronger and be able to use more weight.

I have done the ft program here and it is great. If you want to try the laterals aother way you might want to do 3 sets of 12, the first 8 reps of every set with the heavier weight :ie 10lbs and the last 4 reps with about 7lbs. Don't rest between changing weights. I'm just giving those numbers as an example!
