Hi everybody...New guy trying to get back into weight training. I have been experiencing problems with my right shoulder when trying to work with heavier weights. Sometimes in flows into the elbow. As for my knees; not sure how far I can push them. Are there exercises that you would recommend that put less pressure on the knee joint?

hey fryer,
I don't know why no one has answered you yet. Here goes my take on the subject -
Your joints and ligaments take longer to adapt to increased workloads, so they can't keep up with heavier and heavier weights all the time. Try using a weight that you can do three sets of 10-12 reps until it is easy, then increasing the weights when the last set of 12 reps is no longer a challenge. Only go up a little at a time. This should help with your shoulders and elbows.
As far as your knees, if you use good form and start with manageable weight, squats and leg presses are strengthener for the knees and all around size/strength builders.
You may want to have a trainer check your form

I agree with asimmer, it seems you may be trying to start out to heavy, let your joints get a little muscle built around them before you start increasing weight, taking your time with this now might seem discouraging but if you injure something that will set you back even further. Work your way up gradually as asimmer said & you should be fine, common sense is always ther best tool.

Thanks asimmer & Mojo! You were exactly right about trying to lift to much to soon. My form has been checked by a ?trainor? at our Golds Gym, he told me that I was being to strict; which doesn't make much sense to me. He keep stressing rhythm. I will take YOUR advice, and stick to MY strict form. Not too impressed with the ?trainor? at Gold's here; especially after I saw him BOUNCE 450 off his chest, and arch his back to the roof.
I have been out of it way to long; things and attitudes locally, have really changed.
As for the knees; I will do the squats and presses; this is more of a confidence thing due to past knee surgeries. Just concerned!
Thanks again for your advice...
