I have done a bit of research and a couple of other sites recommend beginners start with one set per muscle group for the first 6 weeks and adding a set each six weeks. My program here starts with 4 sets. Are there pros and cons for each?

I would suggest and how I start 'beginners' is one set for a full body workout the first week. See how the client feels. If really sore, then another week of the same thing.

Then the next week go to 2 sets, and then 3 sets for about 2 months.

The idea believe it or not is to get the body accustomed to working out. This is especially so if you were ordinarily sedentary in your lifestyle.

You will have to 'feel' your way through this if that makes sense.

Thanks! That sounds reasonable. I was a little apprehensive starting out with so many sets after not having done any weight lifting for so many years. I will take your advice and start with a single set and see how I feel
