Hi,
I was wondering about situps. Does it acutally burn fat on the stomach? Or just burn calories like any other workout... I sorta wanted to lose some of the fat on the stomach before spring break (a little flab...). I've cut most of the carbs and I've been doing a lot of running - and I've lost 5 pounds already. I just want to lose a little fat around the edges - so does doing a ton of situps help lose it?

Hi.
You cannot spot reduce the fat with exercise. Doing situps will build your stomach muscle and burn some calories. Doing cardio and right diet plan will get rid of the fat in your body, but not just around your waist.

Konary you are correcy. Abs are built thru diet and exsercise. You really need to get the body fat down to see them. - Mike

Ok, heres the deal with abs as I've experienced so far (If I flex mine really hard you can see them poke through my belly). Im soooo excited. Abs are kind of like crack for beautiful ladies, that being said :
First off, If you want abs... you better watch that diet, you need a calorie deficet to burn body fat but you also have to keep your blood sugar levels up enough to trick your body into thinking everything is cool (basically, glycogen levels up calories down). Now you might think this goes against bodybuilding logic... well, your right. Your not going to build masive slabs of muscle on that kind of a program... but you will get your bodyfat level down quickly. If you want fantastic abs, you have to get all the muscle mass you want first.... then go for the loss of BF.
-------------- If your muscle wont allow you to do the last few reps, make your mind and heart do it. Your muscles will thank them later.

hmmm, would seem like a prob for ppl with fat bellies though but skinny body if they have to loose weight "all round". Personally I had a bit of a belly showing a few months ago, I somehow got rid of it without turning anymore skinny. I think cutting down on the beers musta helped.
