Now from what i understand people think that skinny women starve themselves and are proud of how they look, most of the times.Well i'm not one of them,i must say though, that my mother is a small person,so i assume that's why i am skinny. But i hate being skinny, come people want to lose weight and that is all people ever talk about, but there are people out there who are so skinny, they eat normal and do everything else normal and could never gain weight! This might i add can hav quite an effect on someones self esteem, it has deeply affected my self esteem for a very long while and i hoping that there is an answer out there to help me. At the same time i do not want to get fat buh just have some more size, so that i can feel comfy in what i wear or i can go to beach and wear a bathingsuit or just do the things that i want to do and feel comfy about how i look.

Welcome to FT! You know, what you have said in your post is such a cliche. Being a former skinny guy and a hardgainer to boot, I used to think like you...I eat and eat but can never gain weight. Of course, I ate 3 meals a day which I thought were very large 'cause I was always full. Typical right?

To gain weight is really simple when you think about it. You need to consume more calories than you burn in a day. Start by keeping a journal of what you eat per day. Add up the total calories and see where you end up. Every skinny person's greatest fear is getting fat so really, they think they are consuming tons of calories but really aren't.

Eat 5-7 small meals per day. Develop a sound exercise program. Consume more calories than you burn and you WILL gain weight. The exercise will help you gain LEAN mass which will give you that toned look...not fat.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Start with 12-15 calories per lb of body weight (this is just a ballpark figure but it should get you started). After 2 weeks evaluate your progress. If you have not gained any weight add 250 per day. Continue this process. Once you reach your desired weight, back off gradually until you find your maintenance calories. This process assumes that you are following Robert's excellent advice TO THE LETTER. If you do this you will gain weight!

Will the GNC Weight Gainer 2200 make me gain weight? it has 1850 calories per serving (3 Big Rounded Scoops!!) It's really nasty! What food is the best source of calorie? I mean good calories not the bad ones.

Weight gainer will help you gain weight, yes, but most of it will be fat weight as an increase of that many calories is well above what your body requires to gain muscle. Also, a word of advice, try 1-2 scoops instead with the same amount of water, or substitute in milk for the water.

FINALLY, someone who understands where I am coming from. I am not skinny as much as I am small. I'm proportioned right BUT it is hard to find clothes that fit because I wear a size 3 to a size 5. Everyone says, "Oh, I wish I could be little like you." I tell them no they don't because it is hard to find clothes that don't fall off of me. Skinny is not the "inny" thing for me. I would love to gain some weight. I am 116 and would like to be around 125. While working out is starting to build muscle it has caused me to lose a few pounds, which I hope I will be able to gain back. As for the calories, it is wise to watch what you eat because your cholestrol can go up from the wrong kind. Mine is 244 and I know it is from eating the wrong things just by trying to gain weight. Name some good foods with lots of calories that I can eat.

Halfgallon, try adding pasta, rice, potatoes and yams to your diet.

From what I've read, for hardgainers, diet is the most important part of the equation. Most thin people actually eat a lot less then they think. And the only way to gain weight is to consume more calories then you use. Track your intake for a week, then slowly start to add calories increasing by 500 a day. Keep at that level for a week at a time, increasing each week until you notice gains.
A good site to help with tracking is nutridiary. They're free. I started out at 5'11" 122 lbs, I'm now at 183. Took 2 years. Slow but steady.

THANK GOD! I have people who can empathize with me! I may only be 15, but being 5'5" and 98 lbs.. REALLY SUCKS! Normally i take a size 0 or 1.. or a 24/25 in the waist. I'd love to gain at least 10 lbs preferably 15. i think that would be my optimal weight. I'm gonig to have to starta astrict regime of what i eat and do concerning exercise, i have to stay motivated!

I'd be more than happy to spare 15 pounds for you!! Too bad it doesn't work that way, but good luck in gaining your desired weight!
