I am having a really tough time getting enough, well any, sleep. I am tired around 10pm and if I head to bed I just lie there for three or four hours. It's really frustrating. The room is dark and cool and everything seems to be geared toward falling asleep. I've tried relaxation exercises, TylenolPM, and countless other things. Usually I just get up and watch infomercialls until two or three. The day then starts off exhausted, and I can't give 100% to work, the gym, or rehearsal (I act on the side). My eating is fine, but I just can't seem to sleep! Suggestions? Thanks.

A good porno and an old sock works for me.-------------- Would it be classified as overly competitive if I refused to let a 4 year old beat me at chutes and ladders? |

I suffer with insomnia so I think I can help with some tricks of my own. Try tension tamer or sleepy time tea. Melatonin (pills) works for me most of the time. Don't lie in bed watching the clock, it can add to your stress. Try reading in the other room. Stop drinking Caffine earlier in the day, never past 4:00pm. No napping in the middle of the day either, it can make it impossible to sleep at night? Or you can try ZMA suppliments, they promote restful sleep and mucle growth!? Take a hot shower and relax If all eles fails.-------------- We must take care of our bodies, its where we live. |

Hey wangelis, I am going through the same thing. For me, I think it is some anxiety. I recently took my test for the Michigan State Police, and am waiting for my results. I have been taking melatonin and I also use GABA, both have really helped. Depending on where you live, it could be the weather. Here in Michigan, the weather has been VERY up and down. One day it's 80, the next it's 50. My sleep pattern is back to normal though, so, hopefully, you'll get some sleep soon.:)

I have insomnia too. I take benadryl to help me. You know the allergy pills. I just take two a nt.
Also, they have chamomile tea, and other sleepy time tea which I drink every nt. Also, noone mentioned on here.. are you working out late nights? Sometimes it is hard to sleep if you workout late at night. Also, I have a trick which I use sometimes. Basically you think of words, words that are unassociated. Not related in anyway, Strings of words and you think them in your head.. Like train, water, tie, guitar, etc. and so somehow your brain gets too tired of the words being unassociated and in like 10 minutes you are out. Also, what has helped me is to read before bed. Hope this helps! |

another thing is to set your alarm and get up at exactly the same time each day and always go to bed at the same time each night regardless of whether your working or not.
avoid bright lights, caffeine, alcohol ,exercise or work late at night. And hecs right, orgasm increases pro-sleepy hormones too. |

Thanks, everyone. Some helpful suggestions. jmlcmt, I don't do the caffeine after 5, that's something I learned the hard way from years of morning radio. I have thought about ZMA. benching, I have always liked a cool bedroom at night...thanks there. dahyaz, I hope you hear good things about the MSP. I know from some friends who recently passed the NYPD tests how physically and mentally tough those tests are. The waiting doesn't help, either. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. vivavegas02, nah I don't work at night. I am in the middle of a rehearsal for a play I have opening at the end of the month. We rehearse until about 10:30pm. Since I have the lead, I go home emotionally drained and tired. So, the Benadryl and tea might be an option. And sometimes I do the word thing, too. Thanks to you all for your suggestions. If I don't fall asleep at my work keyboard, I'll let you know what happens.
