Hungry Girl: Frighteningly Fattening Foods Exposed!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by Lisa Lillien on iVillage.com

On-the-go snacks can be dangerous. That quick "pick me up" at Starbucks or Costco can add close to 1,000 calories and dozens of unwanted fat grams to your diet. Hungry Girl is here to help you find ways to curb your cravings with some satisfying swaps.

Starbucks Coffee Catastrophe

Skip it! Sure the Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino Blended Creme with Whip sounds awesome, but 740 calories and 28 grams of fat for 24 ounces of liquid? What kind of crazy person thinks that's a good idea? One who enjoys pants with an elastic waistband, that's who!

Sip it! Still want a frozen coffee treat? Opt for the Grande Espresso Frappuccino Light. It tastes great and only has 140 calories. But remember to skip the whipped cream, because it adds over 100 calories to your frappe!

Costco Cravings

Beat it!Just because everything in the store is oversized, that doesn't mean your snack has to be, too. Avoid the Kirkland Muffins at all costs -- especially the maple ones! That overgrown hunk of fatty cake has 920 calories and 41 grams of fat!

Eat it! Don't wanna wait till you get home to eat? Grab a Kirkland Frozen Yogurt (180 to 200 calories and no fat) or a Berry Smoothie (200 calories, no fat). Both are good choices -- and delicious!

Cold Stone Calamity

Beat it! Stopping at Cold Stone Creamery for an ice cream snack? Skip the candy-encrusted waffle cones and waffle bowls. They each contain 390 calories, 20 grams of fat and 55 grams of carbs -- and that's without the ice cream! The worst frozen offender is the Cake Batter ice cream. Their "Gotta Have It" size has 980 calories and 54 grams of fat! And don't even think about putting the two things together. That would set you back 1,370 calories -- without mix-ins!

Eat it! It's not all bad news at the Cold Stone. Their Sinless Sweet Cream "Like It" size has 170 calories and no fat at all. Toss in some healthy stuff like cherries, blueberries and pineapple, and you'll only add about 25 calories to your dish! A perfect no-guilt ice cream treat!

They sound healthy, but keep an eye out for these tricksters:

Sun Chips: Look at a bag of Sun Chips and you'll see that they proudly tout "40 percent less fat!" And while these 140-calorie, 6-grams-of-fat-per-serving chips do contain less fat than potato chips, they get close to 40 percent of their calories from fat. Don't fool yourself into thinking these are diet friendly. Clearly, they aren't.

Quaker 100 Percent Natural Granola with Oats, Honey and Raisins: Granola isn't diet food. It's not 1978! Sure it tastes good, but a measly 3/4-cup serving of this cereal has a whopping 345 calories and 12 grams of fat. That's just insane.

Taco Salads: Just because something is called a salad, that doesn't mean it's healthy. Fatty fiestas, a.k.a. taco salads, at places like Chi-Chi's, El Torito and Taco Bell, can pack in over 1,000 calories and 55 grams of fat. Dios mio!

The Cheesecake Factory's Carrot Cake: Anyone who thinks carrot cake is good for you never spent quality time with a piece from the Cheesecake Factory. Each slice contains 1,560 calories and 84 grams of fat. What do they do to those poor defenseless carrots?

P.F. Chang's Coconut Curry Vegetables: These veggies seem harmless enough, but each order has 918 calories, 60 grams of fat and 65 grams of carbs. Eek!

Subway's Grilled Chicken and Baby Spinach Salad with Sweet as Honey Mustard Dressing: This sounds like a dieter's dream, yet it contains 620 calories and 48 grams of fat! The Chicken and Bacon Ranch Wrap has 440 calories and 26 grams of fat. Both are low in net carbs, but we recommend ordering one of the "seven under six" sandwiches or some lean deli meat in a low-carb tortilla instead.
