Is this alright to do? I don't get a whole lot, maybe just like half a cup which is like 50 or so calories. The reason I'm asking about snacking on this cereal because they have Carbohydrates and I know that your body doesn't really need lots of Carbohydrates at night and if you eat them they will be stored as fat. Something that not everybody wants to do. Or at least I don't.
Thanks for the posts. DX14AG |

50 calories is pretty minimal, but they're a poor choice for a late night snack. Stick to proteins/fats close to your bedtime - any carbs should be very rough and fibrous, green veggies like broccoli or spinach being ideal.

Don't forget to factor in the milk, unless your eating them dry. I would not eat them before bed, deadheadted is right it is a very poor choice of nutritional value. What are your fitness goals right now?

What? and this whole time I thought Cheerios were healthy! Well, I don't eat them with milk, just eating them dry. Thing is, I don't feel like just eating protein at night, I'd like to add a little of my favorite carbs. What are some good healthy choices with little carbs?

as bb1 mentioned in another post unless you have a raging metabolism starchy carbs should be avoided before bed. Also what time are you snacking at night and what time do you go to bed. Iim sick and tired of eating the same thing every day for the past year and a half but i don't eat the foods i do because i like them i eat them for results, if i ate what i liked i would be eating chinese food, fast food and anything i wanted. So you have to decide what your goals are and how serious you are about achieving them.

You're allowed varying degress of leeway depending on your goals. If you're just trying to maintain your bf%, a few carbs like that at night won't hurt. But if you're on a cut, especially towards the end trying to drop from say 8% to 6%BF, every calorie counts.
If you have to have some carbohydrate at night in the form of a cereal, look for a type of bran or wheat cereal. I prefer wheat chex - taste pretty good and have 5g fiber/serving with minimal added sugar. I'd never eat them at night, but good for during the day when I have to eat while walking inbetween classes, for example. |

i don't understand the comment ' I dont feel like just eating protein at night'... If you want to lose weight, there is no relationship between what you feel like and what you need to achieve.
You must make rules for your lifestyle not blunder about with 'maybes' and 'I dont likes', you will win nothing like that. Define guidelines like, A)3 hours before bed I will consume no more than 30 carbs and then none thereafter! B)I will not eat cheese, milk, grains, fruits, dairy directly before bed. C)I will always have oats or 'real' cereal grains for breakfast(hot oats/muesli/bran flakes) D) I will not buy honey nut loops/coco pops/frosties or any sugar loaded rubbish. E)I will eat 3 fruits and 4 vegetables of as mixed colour as I can each day. Not my rules now, make your own and write down what you eat. Then think about what you are eating and make improvements. best of luck. |

Thank you neiltilley and well put. Comes down to how bad you want to achieve your goals, like i said we don't eat the things we do because we like them, we eat them because thats what our body craves to deliver the reults that we want to see.

Cheerios really are negative calories? I didn't know that. But the big glass of cold milk would have more carbs then what I would even eat in cheerios. what I meant about the I don't just want to eat protien at night thing was that I would also like to snack on a little something else as well. My goals are gaining mass by the way not cutting or losing weight or anything. Not now at least. I have been cutting away from lots of bad foods that are not healthy at all, and I had no idea that Cheerios was in that list.
