Hi
I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I am thinking of going on a low carb. high protein eating plan (may be something like Atkins).
I'm planning on taking whey protein supplements and may be even creatine (if it is low carb).
Will this plan help me put on muscle? I'm not over weight, just a bit loose around the mid section.
I workout 3 to 4 times a week and cycle my bike to college nearly everyday.
Please could someone help as i'm new to all this stuff. :(

The atkins diet will make it hard for you to build muscle. You need carbs for energy to work out. Also to loose the weight in midsection you cannot spot reduce fat. You will need to lower over all body fat.

I have read the Atkins book and it has said that you are able to get your energy from fat burning?
Do you think i'd be better of trying a different eating plan?

yes, your body wants carbs for energy first and foremost, they are the best kind, and without them, you won't be able to give your max in the gym, which is actually the most important part of this whole process. If you work hard enough, you don't have to worry about storing the carbs as fat. It will be hard to put on muscle without carbs. In order to keep your metabolism up, eat 5 or 6 times a day, that way, your body will be better at burning fat, and you will always have energy. hope this helps some.

I couldn't agree more with everyone else. Not only do you need carbs for energy, but carbs also store water within your muscles. When people lose a ton of weight on the Atkins or any other type of low-carb plan, they are losing that water within the muscle, and that is NOT a good thing. So, don't shy away from your carbs. Good luck.:dumbbell:

i keep hearing about loosing overall bodyweight to loose mid section weight, but what if all your BF is at mid section, you become super skinny elsewhere? :)

Your BF may appear mostly at your midsection but it is everywhere. Removing BF is like peeling an onion, One layer at a time
