I was wondering if increasing my sodium intake would help limit the number of bathroom trips during the day by helping the body hold on to the water longer?

umm, I may be wrong, but I would think that increasing your sodium intake would in turn make your body need more water, and would in turn make more bathroom breaks. Also, taking in a lot of sodium doesn't sound like it would be very good for your overall health..someone correct me if I am wrong.

justin, if you're drinking that much water you might want to increase your sodium levels just a tad if you're not eating processed foods, which i'm pretty sure you're not. while it's good to drink a lot of water, when you pee that much your body can flush valuable electrolytes from your system that need to be replaced (i.e. Na and K). Na is an element that humans need, but in moderate amounts. i'm not exactly sure what the rda of Na is, but if you're going to add it to your diet don't exceed a reasonable level. too much Na = bloating and high bp.

sadly i still don't think i've really answered your question, so i'm going to try to use a personal experience to illustrate: my blood pressure sometimes gets dangerously low, prompting my doctor to tell me to increase my Na intake. strangely, when my bp is low, i have to pee all the time, but when i add things like soy sauce and salt to my diet, i tend to have a more normal peeing schedule. i know that's not a scientific way to put it, but that has been my observation. i hope that's helpful :)

It's not healthy. High sodium leads to high BP and can also put your electrolytes out of count.

I beleive my sodium is low due to my clean diet and NO processed foods, i wasn't gonna raise my sodium intake drmatically but maybe a little on my brocolli just a tad to try and hold water in my body a little more. Defintately not a giant leap.

you say "no" processed foods, what exactly do you consider processed? and what kind of sodium are we talking about here? table salt (sodium chloride) or another type like sea salt?
