I have read on these forums several times it is best to avoid sodium, but I was never sure why.

I know your body needs sodium to survive and I know that too much sodium can be very unhealthy, those are in the extemes though. What is the major reason to avoid sodium?

I am not a big fan of avoiding sodium unless you have pre-existing problems. The media again in their infinite wisdom overdid the "scare" and was wrong. On the other hand, I would not go overboard and add more, there is plenty of sodium(in favor of stripped potassium through processing) in most foods.

Thats good to know. I always love putting sea salt on my eggs but recently had been avoiding it for said reasons.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The major reason for avoiding sodium is that your blood pressure could rise.

If you do use extra salt, sea salt would be the way to go.
