sometimes I hate my neighbors!!!!

georgiagirl Posts: 421 Joined: 2006/07/11	2007/06/09, 01:21 PM So my elderly neighbor was getting a heavy delivery and David, my hubby, went over to help carry all the stuff in the house. His son,also a neighbor and in his 60s, told david thanks and offered to bake him a cake. Well he just showed up with a still hot from the oven pound cake. I did take a bite of Kiddos piece and it I the best cake I have EVER tasted. So here I sit with my bowl of oatmeal while my family is all giggly and happily eating fresh pound cake. I really hate my neighbor right now! Why did I have to live in such a friendly neighborhood?:laugh::( -------------- My Catahoula did it. I saw a book titled "Sex for Dummies" and wondered why anyone would teach dumb people how to reproduce?

Best part about us eating healthy is it has rubbed off on the kids. They'd rather grab the grapes or strawberrys for snack instead of candy now :)
amyksmith76 Posts: 601 Joined: 2005/07/26	2007/06/11, 12:19 PM I feel your pain Georgia!!! My neighbors across the street are Turkish and just lovely people. Well, they just cook all the time. Non stop. And, offering food is a symbol of friendship, etc. So, we managed to make friends with them and now they are forever bringing us goodies (they are delicious, don't get me wrong!) but you can't just take them in the house and feed them to the children. The neighbor guy will actually stand there and say "You try it!!!" and will push me until I take a bite, then he hits me and says "Good, eh!?" If he hits me for taking a bite, I'm afraid not to! :)

They didn't bring it over until like 8:30 last night, and I just didn't feel so bold as hubby to have steak and potatoes as a bedtime snack. ha ha. It's left over in the fridge though. Maybe it will be dinner tonight! ha ha.

Today I was at a meeting at a local fast food restaurant chain owner's ranch today and one of the ranch hands gave me a huge bag of green beans, zuchini, yellow squash, and cukes straight from the garden. All stuff I SHOULD eat. Steaks would have been AWESOME! I was surrounded by cattle! :)

Okay, I'm exaggerating a little there, but it's pretty amazing. There is also a rule that all food must contain sugar and/or fat. We add pork to any vegetable, just to make sure three is some fat in it. We fries vegetables. We fry tomatoes! I had a barbecue sandwich at Lennox Mall that had fried pickle slices on it. One of the first things he said when he moved here was "Wow, the people are so nice!" I've been to Seattle, the people aren't as friendly, but it's so beautiful there, who needs people! ha ha. Steve, I have a friend from LA like that. She was forever bringing New Orleans treats with a lot of grease and sausage. SOOO yummy!!

We had sucky neighbors for the first 6 or 7 years in this house, crazy, yelling, cop-calling neighbors...when she finally defaulted and moved the best family ever moved in - The husband loves grilling (and frying) and hands plates full of meat/fried fish, etc over the fence all the time (and he always says "now, don't break your diet' to me :) ) they have a daughter close to our daughter's age and they get along great! In the two 1/2 years they have lived here our lives have changed dramatically - you don't know how drastically someone negative is affecting you until they are out of your life! We also have new neighbor's a few houses away - they are awesome too...it is so cool to see the neighborhood becoming just that - a neighborhood. It makes it almost bearable to deal with the crabby old farts across the alley :) it is interesting - about front porches - some of the new 'planned communities' here are being planned with front porches on all of the houses because it promotes people hanging out and talking to their neighbors. My in-laws had a house built about 10 years ago in a 'better' neighborhood than ours and they only know 1 or 2 neighbors, it is sad. We know all of the neighbors around us and quite a few up and down the street..in our 'bad' neighborhood.:) I do wish we had a front porch, though... -------------- While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us. - Ben Franklin

One of my stinking dogs ran away last night, and all my neighbors drove around until someone found her. It's great to have such support. Georgia and Steve, I'm not poking fun, but as I read your conversation I keep remembering that scene from Hot Shots "Not DOREEN Fothenbock! From Eagle River?" "EAGLE RIVER!!!" ha ha.

We were neighbors, but I would have had to drive for an hour to bring over a casserole! :big_smile: I'll let you know Georgia. I have to go down to Slow-vannah three or four times in the next two months for family stuff. Our shrimp always came from Thunderbolt. Haven't compared prices, but I know the shrimpers appreciate the plug! :)
