Hi, I am a beginner and am in 2nd week of my 8 week muscle gain routine. Till now everything was going good, I had soreness in different muscles everynight :-)) which means I was doing ok.

Yesterday was my legs and calves day. I started out with Machine Squats. Did 2 sets of 20 and 16 reps but when I started the 3rd one I felt that my thighs are locked. I could not do anything after that. If I bend in knees i was feeling like cramps in my thighs. Missed the rest of the routine yesterday.

Is it normal ?? This was the first time in my life I did squats.

Yes that is normal. Your muscles went into "shock", they never did that movement before! Next time you do it it will be a bit easier! Your muscles will remember..."oh, we did this before". Keep it up, the benefits will be there!

You might also want to go a little lighter on the weights. Remember, you don't necessarily have to train to failure each and every time you do an exercise.

Good luck!

When you workout, you are actually tearing the muscle and causing damage. Your body then repairs this damage and, eventually, causes the muscle to grow and adapt to the stresses you place upon them. Proper nutrition will help "heal" the muscles faster. Your body was just not ready for that kind of movement. Be sure to stay properly hydrated so these things that feel like cramps don't get more severe. Good luck!

I still get sore after leg day! I have noticed, though, that I don't get too sore the day after, but 2 days later. Delayed reaction I guess...

Okay, all I have to say is I work UPSTAIRS, and I live on the THIRD floor. Day after leg day really, really bites.

Hey Philia2 3rd day and the soreness is gone. I did the calves yesterday with some pain but managed it. I think increase in blood flow due to yesterdays workout helped a lot. I am ready for legs next week
